Camperdown is the gateway to Victoria's rich dairy country, a town with a strong Scottish influence and a love of all things football and netball.

But hidden down a side street is a grand old dame of a building, the Theatre Royale.

Inside this building, Camperdown locals have been removing the gumboots and overalls and donning costumes to entertain their fellow farmers for 75 years.

So how has this little dairy town maintained a vibrant theatre community?

Sneak behind the curtains and find out.

This audio story was produced for and broadcast on Radio National's The Stage Show with Michael Cathcart.
