Ross grew up on a dairy farm in South-west Victoria but knew early on that milking cows was not for him. After studying Communications at Deakin University and Radio at Swinburne University, Ross finally got himself a proper job talking on the wireless. Ross worked in commercial radio in New South Wales and Victoria before moving to Queensland and joining the ABC.
